Today it is the day the Inside-Out Blog was created, but three years ago. So, today, I have paid the domain renewal. I want to thank those who have been supporting this blog by their comments or by hiring me.

With this post, I want to confirm Inside-Out will remain another year. I will continue posting articles about Linux, VoIP, Security, Coding Tips, projects I start, my migration to Canada experience, any other process I do in Canada, money and business tips and any other thing I believe it could be useful.

Availability is one pillar of the Information Security; it defines itself as the capability of being accessed by legit users when needed. On the other hand, we have DoS attacks which attack an asset availability. A successful DoS attack is the one that will not let a user access an asset when needed.

Exposures to DoS attacks are not the easiest to discover; a vulnerability scan will not report them. A successful DoS attack does not always exploit a vulnerability. DoS attacks are discovered easily by seasoned security practitioners. For example, an attacker could send millions of HTTP request to a valid URL in a given website. The HTTP request could be totally valid and legit, but what it makes it an attack is the excess of it. The HTTP server cannot handle it, therefore when a legit user tries to access it, he will fail; the HTTP server is too busy.

There could be many kinds of DoS attacks. This article will prevent the following:

  • When an attacker requests too many times the same URL
  • When an attacker request too many times different URL's; each individual type of request may no be considered an attack, but the sum of them it is.

This week it is the first anniversary of the Inside-out.xyz blog. I just renewed the domain name. I must say that having a blog has been a sweeter bite experience. Although I was able to be contacted by some wonderful people, the main aim of making a living by getting freelancing jobs has not been successful at all.

I will keep up this blog as I believe that the knowledge sharing is the best way to get contacted. But I need a little help of everyone to feel that I am being read. The best way is by commenting the blog. I have got few comments on some articles, but they are few. Almost 1 comment each 2 months.

Please give a try reading things, and contact me if you want some special subjects. Usually, I write about:

  • Technology: FreeSWITCH, FusionPBX, Crypto Currencies, Linux, High Availability, MariaDB, Apache and many other subjects.
  • Canada: Some immigration experiences, tips to get some processes done, exams clues basically.
  • Money: Some strategies, FOREX and how to save money
  • Marketing: Mainly based on SEO experience
  • Personal Projects

Enjoy!

In 2014 I was laid off from my job. It was a very difficult time. With a lot of free time on my hands and bad luck to find a new one, I decided to invest it in something useful. I decided to code Billing for FusionPBX.

Since then, I have got many requests about opening the source. But since this piece of software is money related, I think it is fair asking for 6 months invested in continued development.

When this funding is done, the source of Billing for FusionPBX will be published on Github. You will be able to find it very easily by googling it.

The money will be used to support me adding new capabilities to the new open source and as a try recover from that big economical lapse I had.

In order to stimulate this funding, those who contribute with 200 CAD or more, they will get 1 license valid until this funding ends. (Billing license worths 49.99 USD per server monthly, I think it is a pretty good deal). At the end of this funding, you will be able to upgrade to the open source code without issues.

10% of this funding will be donated to the FusionPBX project (after deducting fees from this portal).

Please don't hesitate on contacting me in case any doubt or comment.
